Position Summary
Harbinger Oncology is seeking a highly motivated, talented and detail-oriented laboratory automation engineer with molecular biology background to join our automation engineering team to enable research & clinical laboratories. The successful candidate will become an integral member of stellar team delivering true walk-away automation capabilities for Harbinger Hx Assay. This candidate will be responsible for validating the transition of bench-based protocols to automated platform, creating new liquid handling methods as well as optimizing and modifying operationalized methods across a broad spectrum of robust laboratory automation instruments. Develop and run monthly QCs to ensure instrument’s spec performance. Assist with troubleshooting and support in-house robotic systems. During periods of increased sample demand, mid-shift coverage might be requested to ensure quick issue resolution.
Key responsibilities
- Enable implementation of novel methods on the liquid handling platforms across research and CLIA-validated clinical laboratories.
- Optimize Assays on automated platforms.
- Close collaboration with process development team to transition manual workflows to automation.
- Suggest technical improvements and assay miniaturization opportunities.
- Train laboratory techs on robotic systems & oversee proper use and compliance.
- Assist with implementation of automated workflows and sample tracking.
- Close collaboration/drive requirements with digital team to incorporate LIMS functionality & digital tools like Artificial orchestrator.
- Continually seek out new technologies/instruments to aid in workflow optimization.
Qualifications
- BS, MS in Engineering discipline (Bio, Biomedical or Mechanical) or Biology.
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with running, designing, programming, validating and implementing into production of laboratory liquid handling methods to increase throughput, accuracy and true walk-away automation.
- Experience running and automating in-vitro, cell-based and/or diagnostic assays.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter who continuously seeks to improve existing laboratory methods and processes.
- Ability to work independently, as well as a part of the team.
- Familiar with LIMS sample tracking.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Hamilton liquid handling platforms and In-depth understanding of liquid class parameter optimization is preferred.
- Experience with GitHub (or similar) & database structures.
