What we need:
This position typically works 7am-3:30pm, Monday – Friday but fills in for other positions therefore schedule flexibility is required. The Utility Operator role is responsible for visual monitoring of all plant operational area equipment for unfamiliar noises, leaks and possible equipment failures as well as housekeeping duties. This role is operating as an interim succession role for vacancies therefore is skilled in multiple functions throughout the plant.
What you’ll do:
- Assist operations team members with work needed and function as a skilled crossed trained team member when a role vacancy or need to fill in arrives.
- Must be able to accurately and efficiently perform the duties of specialized skills in the plant (e.g., Press Operator, Lift Operator, Assistant Operator, etc.)
- Assist in the coordination of plant operations to ensure that material is being processed correctly.
- Coordinate product changeovers, belt changes, and blade changes on operation lines.
- Identify material leaving the machinery and label it accordingly.
- Perform quality checks and work orders and notify the Team Leader of any discrepancies.
- Package the finished pallets of material for shipment or delivery to another work center.
- Read, understand, and follow packaging instructions for material being packaged.
- Assist Operators and other personnel in repairing or maintaining the machinery.
- Locate, and check out from the storeroom if needed, supplies needed to perform any of the above functions and notify the Team Leader of any shortages of materials.
- Communicate any problems or ideas that you have to the Team Leader.
- Monitors furnace, thermal oil pumps, resin pumps and lines, steam generator, refiner, and aux hopper by making periodic rounds.
- Identifies process variation, determines the source, and works to eliminate it.
- Communicate with the operator and lead teams to maintain stable and consistent production.
- Performs basic maintenance related tasks and inspections.
- Perform housekeeping activities daily throughout the plant.
- Observes safe work practices in compliance with the safety policy
- Performs other related duties as required.
What you have:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
- Forklift experience preferred or the ability to get Forklift Certified.
- Reads and writes in standard English and proficient in performing basic math calculations such as addition and subtraction.
- Successful completion of all required on the job training.
- Successful completion of all required health and environmental safety training.
What you’re good at:
- Must be an effective team member.
- Ability to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and steel toe shoes.
- Must be able to sit and drive a forklift.
- Good oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with others in the immediate work unit and in related supported areas.
- Must be flexible to schedule changes (including night and weekend shifts)
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
