Vehicle Instrumentation Operations Technician

This position is part of our Advanced Safety & User Experience segment in Troy, MI.

Responsibilities:

• Operations Coordinator:
  • Manage the cost estimating and material/labor expense forecasting activities associated with internal instrumentation builds and external instrumentation orders
  • Manage the procurement of instrumentation inventory to support internal builds and external orders
  • Manage the fulfillment and processing of external instrumentation orders
  • Manage vehicle instrumentation documentation repositories
  • Manage equipment preventive maintenance, calibrations, and inspections
  • Challenge the status quo to develop improved processes
• Technician:
  • Perform all aspects of prototype vehicle builds including but not limited to:
  • Design and fabricate sensor brackets
  • Fabricate wiring harnesses
  • Teardown and rebuild vehicles (especially interior and exterior trim)
  • Install sensors, brackets, power distribution, communications wiring, computers, and other components
  • Diagnose vehicles and systems including CAN, Flexray, and Ethernet
  • Flash software to sensors and ECUs
  • Calibrate autonomous vehicle sensors such as lidar, radar, and cameras
  • Conduct vehicle maintenance and assist test engineers with ADAS vehicle system checkout and testing issues, as appropriate

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):

• 2-year technical degree or certification in related technical field (such as automotive)
• 5+ years of experience working with automotive electronics and sensors
• Organized and structured work approach
• Able to be self-managed and take responsibility
• Bias for action and getting things done
• Adaptive - comfortable with ambiguity and able to effectively manage several projects at once
• Tools Proficiencies: Office, Jira, Teams, Microsoft Project

Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications):

• Experience with cost estimating/expense forecasting
• Experience with prototype component/equipment procurement and inventory management
• Ford or Stellantis certified technician with dealership experience
• ASE Master Technician certification
• Experience working with/on ADAS vehicles or other prototype vehicles including sensors such as lidar, radar, and cameras
• Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping
• Experience with CAD software packages and part design
