Job Summary/Overview:

Louisiana, like many other states in the US, is facing critical educational issues that threaten to derail economic progress as well as the overall quality of life of its citizens.  The mission of the Office of Education Research (OER) in the College of Human Sciences and Education at Louisiana State University is to serve the people of Louisiana and the larger nation by providing high quality research on key education issues facing the citizenry of the State and the Nation. OER will have a positive impact on the lives of the citizenry of Louisiana by providing policy makers and educators with research that can inform decision-making and lead to ever more effective educational policies and practices. OER is currently seeking a part-time (25%) Research Professor, non-tenured track position, that will lead education research projects and strategic initiatives that will contribute to fundamental knowledge and have the potential to have a positive impact on life in Louisiana and beyond.  The Research Professor will actively seek external contracts and grants; support research projects and outreach activities conducted by OER; assist the director with preparation, presentation, and publication of research studies and OER policy briefs. The Research Professor will report directly to the director of OER.

Job Responsibilities:

Grants/Contracts (50%):

As PI/CO-PI on funded grants, the Professor of Research is expected to actively engage in identification of grant and contract opportunities; lead and participate in efforts to write  competitive proposals and guide proposals through the Sponsored Programs Office in the College; and  participate in the management and execution of grants and contracts secured by OER. This includes hiring staff and contractors, securing materials and supplies, organizing and managing project activities, ensuring that timelines for deliverables are met, and assisting the director with staff performance evaluations.

Publications/Presentations (25%):

Participates in preparation and publication of research papers prepared by OER. Participates in study design, data collection and analysis, reporting of results and preparation of manuscripts suitable for publication. Oversees the submission, revision and publication process; Participates in preparation of presentations for academic conferences. Identifies appropriate professional meetings for OER research and prepares proposals for submission. Prepares papers and presentations for accepted proposals; Participates in preparation and publication of white papers and policy briefs prepared by OER. Identifies topics of general interest and leads efforts to research and write white papers and policy briefs.

Outreach/Partnerships (15%):

Participates in development of conferences, workshops, seminars, speaker series, and other outreach activities by OER. Identifies topics of general interest, designs conferences, workshops, seminars and other outreach activities. Leads efforts to develop materials and logistics so that events are successful; Participates in identification and nurturing of partnerships and collaborations consistent with OER mission. This includes establishing partnership with local school systems, government agencies and appropriate industries.

Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Education or Social Policy

(A) proven track of effectiveness in designing projects that effectively increase access and success of PK12 students in STEM disciplines, and/or a (B) proven track record of effectiveness of increasing access and success of post-secondary students in completion of undergraduate and graduate degrees in STEM disciplines.
