Job Description Summary:

Our purpose is to provide you with an immersive experience, working alongside experts, contributing to impactful projects, and gaining insights into the forefront of science, engineering, and medicine.We invite talented and driven undergraduate students to participate in our prestigious College Student Hire program at the National Academies. This 6 to 8-week program from June 10 – August 2 (based on unit’s needs) offers a unique chance to collaborate with leading experts, contribute to impactful projects, and gain valuable exposure to the process behind of providing relevant advice to policy makers on the most relevant issues in science, engineering, and medicine facing the nation today.
The Website/IT/Database Intern will work with our membership technology team as the NAS launches its new website and online applications.

Job Description:
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Configure and revise web pages using WordPress tools and plugins, optimize website graphics, and help perform quality assurance on site updates submitted by staff.
- Help diagnose and resolve website technical issues, working with internal and external resources.
- Help develop training aids to guide non-technical staff in maintaining high-quality web pages.
- Update membership database records and prepare data file uploads.
- Attend regular technology meetings with software vendors and consultants to keep informed of project status and upcoming milestones.
- Participate in division team meetings to keep staff informed about the status and success of the new website and database projects.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong interest in gaining hands-on experience with online web and database applications.
- Basic knowledge of HTML coding and graphics software.
- Strong attention to detail and deadlines.
- Enthusiastic, self motivated, and interested in science and technology.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge. Current enrollment in a college or university program.
Minimum Experience: None.
Physical Capabilities: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
Required Licenses, Certification, or Registration: None.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to an Associate Program Officer, Program Officer, or Senior Program Officer. Supervisor is available to organize work, set objectives, and assist in problem resolution.
Compensation: The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs. The compensation for this position is $18.00 per hour.
Work Environment: Hybrid office/telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 40%, with occasional travel between National Academies’ facilities.
