Your Role at Baxter
Baxter seeks a Sr. Principal Codes and Standards Electrical Engineer to join our Care Communications business in Raleigh, NC. Baxter produces medical solutions to empower clinical communication and collaboration and promote patient safety and satisfaction in the acute care hospital environment.
The Sr. Principal Codes and Standards Electrical Engineer is an exciting role in supporting hardware design activities within our research and development team. Primary focus of the role will be to provide Codes and Standards electrical engineering support for product development, responsible for performing engineering analysis, and verification of regulatory requirements.
What you'll be doing
- Work in a collaborative design team to assist with development of embedded devices which interact in complex communication systems.
- Apply Electrical Engineering principles to resolve regulatory product compliance issues.
- Utilize standard problem-solving methodology to determine root cause and effective solutions to problems.
- Independently plans, schedules and leads cross-functional teams as needed in detailed phases of the engineering work in a project.
- Ensures that all calibration and preventive maintenance of R&D lab tools are performed on time as scheduled.
- Interfaces with Underwriters Laboratory (UL) to perform UL impact assessments, schedule regulatory testing and ensure that all new products and all changes to existing products are UL1069, FCC part 15 compliant, meet seismic testing requirements and transportation testing requirements.
- Configures, and deploys product environment test Systems to UL needed for formal UL testing.
- Participates in technical design reviews and provides feedback to design engineers on all implementation details that may impact Codes and Standards requirements.
- Assists design teams with RFI / EMC pre-scans of all prototypes prior to formal testing.
- Develops and researches all relevant Codes and Standards assigned to ensure product compliance, including RoHS 3, Prop 65, CE mark.
- Monitors UL 1069 updates and communicates options to Management.
- Responds to Variation notices and works with responsible engineers to maintain product compliance.
- Reviews all Change orders, procures and archives all Notifications of Approvals from recognized test labs
- Reviews all Product requirements, Hardware Requirements to ensure that they conform to relevant current Codes and Standards.
What You'll Bring
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, MS EE preferred
- 10 + years electrical engineering experience in Codes and Standards preferably in the medical industry or similar regulated industry.
- Strong Interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
- Proficient with lab equipment such as oscilloscope, current probes, spectrum analyzer, DMM, etc.
- Experience with Analog and Digital circuit designs and troubleshooting.
