The Patient Liaison is responsible for providing coordination of patient care within the Radiation Oncology Department, working under the direction of a supervisor. This position will serve as a liaison between the patients and the providers and will coordinate patient care. The position also acts as a point of contact regarding appointment scheduling, pre-authorizations, and registration of related appointments and procedures for patients. Using strong critical thinking skills, the coordinator will assess and remove barriers such as transportation and recommended appropriate interventions and support services to meet the needs of the patient. Additionally, it requires scheduling cancer patients timely, retrieving outside records for coordination of care, obtaining and verifying insurance information, scheduling appropriate pre-appointment testing, and obtaining prior-authorizations and referrals, as well as coordinating transportation with InspiraGo as needed. Acts as physician support.
In addition, the position will support the daily activities of the Radiation Oncology department including greeting and directing patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner. The position answers telephones in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner, appropriately addresses the call by responding to the inquiry or transferring the caller to the appropriate personnel or initiates a triage task for response by medical personnel. Coordinates reminder calls to all patients scheduled. Schedules patient studies recommended by provider(s). Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and physician’s offices.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in working with patients in a medical practice or medical setting required.
- Radiation Oncology experience preferred.
- Experience working with the public, computer data entry, strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Cerner EMR preferred.
