Job Description:

Under the direction of the Manager, provide technical support to the OR Staff through planning, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling all operating room equipment, materials and instruments.  Provide training to OR staff on proper use of equipment.  Work collaboratively with surgeon office staff, OR staff, Central Sterile staff and outside vendors in coordination of OR equipment.  Responsible for carrying out and/or coordinating routine and ad hoc maintenance and repairs to equipment.  Function as a Surgical Technologist as needed and assigned.Duties/Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Manager, provide technical support to the OR Staff through planning, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling all operating room equipment, materials and instruments.
  • Provide training to OR staff on proper use of equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeon office staff, OR staff, Central Sterile staff and outside vendors in coordination of OR equipment.
  • Responsible for carrying out and/or coordinating routine and ad hoc maintenance and repairs to equipment.
  • Function as a Surgical Technologist as needed and assigned.
  • Provide functional or technical supervision of other employees in the same or related classifications where supervisory responsibility is limited to occasional direction, guidance, explanation, etc.
  • Onboarding of all new staff and students. Responsible for working with educator to provide an orientation rotation.
  • Ensure proper distribution and maintenance of materials by working with the Manager OR Service Group, Manager OR Business Operations, and Manager Central Sterile, to develop and maintain inventory par levels, review stock usage and process special orders as directed.
  • Assist with preference card development and maintenance.
  • Establish instrument set protocols for responsible services.
  • Collaborate with assigned service Team Leader, Central Supply Manager and OR Manager to revise instrument sets and improve instrument set utilization.
  • Assist in material usage evaluation. Outdate non-moving inventory, identify duplicate supply items, and recommend potential cost reduction opportunities.
  • Research requests for new and special-order equipment, materials and instruments; assist with trial and evaluation of new products.
  • Act as liaison between Central Sterile and OR staff.
  • Establish instrument set preparation protocols for responsible services with Central Sterile; provide training to Central Sterile staff on protocols as needed
  • Create and maintain equipment reference manual for assigned service group.
  • Conduct in-service training for assigned OR service group staff for new and existing equipment, instruments and materials.
  • Act as resource to Manager and other team members on use of assigned group equipment, instruments and materials.
  • Responsible for the orientation and precepting of new employees, ensuring that the orientation program is up to date.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons and surgeon office staff, OR staff, ancillary departments, and management regarding case scheduling, special orders, equipment and instrumentation issues.
  • Obtain and process all special schedule requests.
  • Routinely review all future schedules assuring all special requests are fulfilled.
  • Communicate with appropriate staff members, i.e., scheduling, Manager OR Service Group, OR Team Leader, etc., regarding any constraints to the scheduling system/process regarding equipment and/or instrument loaners, repairs, special requests, and timeframe concerns
  • Organize and plan for scheduled cases. Set appropriate daily priorities.
  • Check case carts for completeness and ensure all special items are available.
  • Assure that special order materials are available when needed and are billed appropriately.
  • Assist in the assembly and operation of equipment ensuring patient, staff and surgeon safety. Assist with setup and operation of equipment and instrumentation on various cases as needed.
  • Promote minimal lapse time between patients. Function as Surgical Technologist as needed and assigned.

Education/Experience Required

  • Graduate of approved Surgical Technologist training program or equivalent combined education and experience required.
  • Minimum three (3) years related OR experience required.
