Job Description Summary:

We are seeking a Clinical Research Assistant with a passion for health and wellness. The ideal candidate will be adept at both one-on-one and group-based health education or exercise and has experience working with various populations. This individual will play a crucial role in assisting with the implementation and evaluation of weight management interventions, conducted both in-person and remotely.

Clinical Research Assistants within the Division of Physical Activity and Weight Management at KUMC support all stages of implementing and executing studies and projects, participate in data collection, and outcome testing in a variety of physical activity, nutrition, and weight management interventions. This position may grow as warranted with opportunities to build and enhance skills, duties, and responsibilities.

Job Description:

Job Duties

  • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of physical activity, nutrition, and weight management interventions across diverse populations, including individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, and mobility-related disabilities.

  • Deliver one-on-one and group-based health education sessions as a health educator and/or exercise specialist for participants in intervention studies.

  • Collaborate with faculty investigators and research team members to ensure adherence to study protocols and support daily study operations.

  • Conduct outcome testing, including anthropometric measurements and data collection related to diet, physical activity, behavior change, and body composition.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed participant records through timely documentation and data entry, in compliance with university policies and applicable standards.

  • Assist in promoting program offerings and engaging potential participants through outreach and communication efforts.

Work Environment

  • Work at various locations in Kansas City and Lawrence.

  • Occasional evening hours required, based on study responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Public Health, Nutrition, or related field or an equivalent combination of relevant post-secondary education and work experience that equals 4 years.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:  Master’s degree.

Certification: Additional professional certifications in exercise or health education.

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a clinical or research setting, preferably related to weight management.

  • Experience with meal planning, preparation, and education.

  • Experience with various populations, including those with intellectual or physical disabilities.  

  • Experience with data entry.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and possess good interpersonal skills.
