Summary:  This position requires an active and highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered dedication to teaching Saxophone and Music Theory.

Classification Standard Duties:
Teaching: Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate applied saxophone, pedagogy; undergraduate and graduate Theory Courses. Other responsibilities include maintaining a strong studio and recruiting on behalf of the NMSU Music Department. This position may be assigned additional duties dependent upon the needs of the department.

Research: Maintain appropriate research activities such as conference attendance/performance, publications, recordings, etc.

Service: Oversee all aspects of the Saxophone Program; Assume leadership role in the recruitment of saxophone students through building and maintaining productive relationships with public school band programs, recruitment trips, tours; participate in departmental and university committees and other university activities as assigned, acting as coordinator or co-coordinator of the music theory program.

Outreach: Build and maintain productive relationships with local band programs.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
This position requires the following:
• D.M.A. in Saxophone Performance
• A minimum of 15 years of full-time teaching Undergraduate and/or Graduate Applied Saxophone and Music Theory at an NASM accredited University
• Demonstrated evidence of teaching successful graduate level music theory courses
• Demonstrated success at the international, national, and regional level
• Demonstrated history of commissioning and/or premiering new works for the saxophone
• Demonstrated expertise in free improvisation, including released albums that have been critically reviewed in known publications.
• Demonstrated commitment to the North American Saxophone Alliance
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and a working knowledge of public-school systems in the vicinity of New Mexico State University

Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; a collaborative and collegial approach to music-making and a commitment to the highest standards of musicianship and teaching.
