Summary
The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients with acute and chronic dermatologic conditions. Working collaboratively with dermatologists and other healthcare providers, the NP performs skin assessments, diagnoses, and procedures, including biopsies and cosmetic treatments. The NP plays a vital role in patient education, disease prevention, and promoting skin health.Job Description
Conduct comprehensive dermatologic evaluations and skin exams. Diagnose and manage conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, infections, and hair/nail disorders. Perform procedures & cosmetic treatments (as privileged) Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., lab work, cultures, pathology reports). Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans. Educate patients on skincare, disease prevention, and treatment compliance. Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR). Collaborate with dermatologist on complex or high-risk casesQualifications
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.Minimum 1–2 years of dermatology or relevant NP experience preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC). Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form. Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
