About the role

We are seeking a Sr. Research Assistant who will coordinates and contributes to research studies focused on improving care and outcomes for older adults, particularly those requiring long-term services and supports. Position manages the day-to-day operations of research projects, providing complex administrative support in a fast-paced, high volume research environment.


Responsibilities include communicating with and tracking activities led by internal and external research team members and collaborators; managing documents and data; and preparing and leading progress reports, conference presentations, and IRB applications. In addition, the project manager is responsible for conducting qualitative data collection and analysis. This position regularly deals with human subject and other confidential materials, and often requires independent judgment and action.


The ideal candidate will possess the requisite skills and an interest in contributing to new studies. This may include assistance with other ad hoc research tasks. In addition to the job qualifications, candidates may find it helpful to have experience: working in team-based environments; synthesizing and summarizing medical literature; preparing progress reports, manuscripts, and conference presentations; collecting primary data; and managing data.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes multiple research activities.
  • Problem solves project or data management issues that pose a threat to the validity of the research.
  • Provides administrative support for four or more projects headed by multiple PIs across research institutes totaling over $5 million.
  • Participate in the collection, coding, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data using relevant software (250+ participants)
  • Process administrative paperwork, including travel, participant reimbursements, and IRB applications and continuing reviews.
  • Contribute to research dissemination efforts (20+ manuscripts, reports, and presentations per year)


Major Responsibility - Project Administration 50%


Supporting Actions

  • In accordance with project goals, and under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, and Senior Project Manager, assists with the day-to-day operations of research projects, establishes systems for data collection activities, designs and maintains project tracking systems to reflect project status, organizes and archives project files, communicates with numerous project investigators across multiple institutions, schedules and coordinates meetings, takes meeting notes, and monitors adherence to IRB requirements and guidelines.


Major Responsibility - Data Collection and Analysis 35%


Supporting Actions

  • Work with PI, Co-Investigators, and Senior Project Manager to assist with data acquisition, collection, and analysis strategies.
  • Responsibilities include, monitoring data acquisition, collection, processing, and quality, establishing systems to collect and/or analyze data, communicating with team members involved in data acquisition or collection, and ensuring compliance with human subjects' regulations and study-specific procedures for maintaining participant confidentiality.
  • In addition, this person will be a member of the qualitative analysis team and responsible for aiding in the development and refinement of interview protocols, recruiting, screening, and scheduling participants; conducting interviews; and coding interview data using qualitative data analysis software, such as NVivo or Atlas.ti.


Major Responsibility - Reports, Presentations, and Manuscript Development 15%


Supporting Actions

  • Contribute to the preparation and writing of reports to funders, manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations for internal and professional meetings.
  • This includes conducting literature reviews, writing project summaries, referencing, drafting and editing IRB reports, critically reviewing and editing abstracts, conference presentations, and manuscripts.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of human subject's research ethics and requirements.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office suite, Google suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Proficiency with NVivo, Atlas.ti, or other qualitative analysis software.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. 
  • Two years of related experience
