Summary
Assist in coordinating and supervising hospitality events and food service activities of the students participating in the Culinary Services Program for El Paso Community College. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Examples of duties
Support the management of day-to-day food service outlets operations at Transmountain (TM) and Mission del Paso (MdP) Campus, ensuring quality, safety, and exceptional customer service. Supervise culinary students and other kitchen personnel, coordinate assignments to ensure economical and timely food production.
Monitor and review the financial transactions and monitor the budget for the assigned site to ensure efficient operation and expenditures stay within budget limitations. Prepare and submit scheduled reports of findings to the Manager, Student Culinary Services (SCS Manager).
Establish and enforce sanitation standards at the assigned site in accordance with guidelines set by the SCS Manager.
Collaboration with the SCS Manager, review menus and recommend pricing. Analyze food, labor, and overhead costs, and report findings to the SCS Manager.
Participate in planning menus and managing food surpluses by considering the expected number of guests, market conditions, popularity of dishes, and menu rotation. Recommend strategies for waste prevention and resource optimization and report findings to the SCS Manager to ensure efficient coordination of resources and operations.
Discuss catering requests with SCS Manager and provide prompt, courteous, and informative feedback regarding events and food products at the respective sites, including MdP or TM.
Communicate customer feedback and information promptly to the SCS Manager and the Dean of the program, and recommend or implement changes to improve the program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Must possess a good understanding of foodservice industry standards of sanitation, safety, cooking methods, customer relations, and food service management.
3. Working knowledge of weight/volume measures common to industry, food specifications, and industrial/commercial kitchen/restaurant equipment, and possess proficient knife skills.
4. Working knowledge of purchase orders, statements, invoices, and cash register operation and programming.
5. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
6. Effective interpersonal, leadership, and teambuilding skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
8. Effective training and supervisory skills.

1. Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) certification preferred.
