Senior Fabric Data Engineer

Overview

WD-40 Company is seeking a Senior Fabric Data Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This newly created role plays a pivotal role in shaping the data landscape at WD-40 Company by architecting, building, and maintaining robust data infrastructure within Microsoft Fabric. This position is responsible for enabling the seamless collection, storage, processing, and analysis of large-scale data to drive actionable insights and strategic decision-making across the organization.

 

As a senior technical leader, this role will design end-to-end data solutions, optimize data pipelines, and implement advanced automation frameworks that support enterprise-wide analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Python, along with a strong understanding of data governance, security, and performance optimization.

This position is based at our headquarters in San Diego and offers the flexibility of working a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

Architect end-to-end data solutions within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI that support complex business analytics, ensuring scalability, resilience, and alignment with enterprise strategy.

Lead the orchestration and optimization of Azure Data Factory pipelines, overseeing data flow design, monitoring, and operational efficiency across environments and use cases.

Design and implement advanced data automation frameworks in Python, enabling reusable, modular, and high-performance analytics pipelines for production environments.

Own the strategy, governance, and performance of Fabric Lakehouse architecture, guiding its evolution to support both current reporting and future advanced analytics, including AI/ML integration.

Perform advanced data analysis and modeling, translating ambiguous business questions into analytical solutions that drive high-impact decision-making and strategic insights.

Drive cross-functional collaboration with IT, data governance, and business stakeholders to define and refine BI requirements, ensuring alignment with data strategy and regulatory expectations.

Mentor and technically guide junior and mid-level engineers, promoting best practices in code quality, data modeling, and platform governance while cultivating a high-performance engineering culture.

Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technology evaluations, recommending and implementing innovative tools and practices to improve data platform capabilities and analytics velocity.

Ensure data compliance and security by design, embedding governance frameworks, lineage tracking, and access control into all data solutions and pipelines.

Serve as a technical escalation point for complex analytical and infrastructure issues, applying deep platform expertise and systems thinking to ensure high system availability and performance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years managing large-scale platform infrastructure with a focus on Microsoft technologies.
• 5+ years of experience with data warehousing and cloud-based ecosystems, particularly Azure.
• 5+ years managing cloud infrastructure (of Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Blob Storage).
• 3+ years working with ETL design and implementation, including data quality checks and data integrity.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, indicating an educational background in data engineering principles and practices.
