About the role

The Senior Aquatic Ecologist will provide science-based advice to support the implementation of the Rural Water Use Strategy, including the River Health Advisory Project and other key policy and program initiatives.

In this role, you will deliver fit-for-purpose information and advice to ensure Tasmania’s water resources are managed sustainably – supporting the continued prosperity of the States industries and the community’s standard of living. Lead and contribute to freshwater ecological studies, environmental water assessments and monitoring programs that inform water management decisions across Tasmania.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

Period of appointment

2 years or until the return of the substantive whichever is earliest.

Essential requirements

  • A degree in Environmental Management, Ecology, Aquatic Ecology, Hydrology or Environmental Science relevant to the professional duties to be undertaken, as provided by a university.

Desirable requirements

  • A current motor vehicles driver’s licence.
  • Completion of relevant courses/training in water safety.
  • A current First Aid certificate.
  • 4WD experience.
