Your Impact

Axon Air provides software, hardware, and services to make Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (more commonly, "drones") accessible for public safety. Axon recently acquired Sky-Hero, the leading Brussels-based provider of tactical UAVs and UGVs, focused on indoor use by elite tactical teams in law enforcement and military special operations.

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with experience in Android firmware development to support the Sky-Hero team in Brussels, working on the development of cutting edge UAV and UGV reconnaissance products. Drones are already a vital tool to ensure safer and better outcomes for both law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. Axon is in a unique position to build the ecosystem to accelerate this trend and to leverage the latest developments in drone technology to protect life.

What You’ll Do

Location: Brussels, Belgium
Reports to: Director of Engineering

• Participate in research and development of our next generation products, with a focus on our custom Embedded Firmware
• Participate in research work on new technologies and Implement proof-of-concept prototypes
• Participate and drive critical decisions concerning critical technology choices (architecture, chipset selection, etc.)
• Design and implementation of firmware components for new products
• Manage outsourced development work; from project specification to deliverables validation
• Participate in the upkeep and maintenance of existing code bases
• Participate in the development of internal tools and test systems

What You Bring

• Master’s or B.S. degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent through experience
• Real-world Industry Firmware or Embedded experience of 10+ years
• Excellent C skills, knowledge of Python or Golang and at least one other programming language
• Experience with both Kernel and User-space Embedded Linux with exposure to Yocto, OpenWRT or other Embedded Distros for Board Support Packaging
• Experience with RTOS on Microcontrollers
• Experience customizing Android for embedded applications, android kernel and boot time optimization
• Comfortable with Git, GCC, CMake
• English proficiency required, French and or Dutch are a plus

Any experience with the following is a plus:

• The Rust programming language and ecosystem
• Android application development
• Familiarity with or Willingness to learn nuances of Cellular LTE Modem and SIM Card provisioning processes
• Basic electronics knowledge (use of oscilloscope, DMM, etc.)
• Robotics and/or UAV development
