Job Summary

The school Medical Assistant will assist in the daily operation of the school health office. The Medical Assistant will administer medical care as guided by NYS Office of Profession State Education and NYS School Health Office while performing a variety of medical and clerical duties related to the school health programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Measure vital signs (I.e., temperature, blood pressure, pulse) update RN/LPN of readings, start eSchool note, and update RN/LPN of purpose of student visit, RN will triage/assess and complete nursing office care note
  • Act as a scribe, collect data, record student health history, healthy physicals, dental forms, medications, provider approved health screenings, allergies, and all other provider notes in eSchool
  • Contact parents, guardians, or other responsible persons regarding ill or injured students in addition to medication and supplies needed on hand during school hours for the student
  • Greet parents, receive all medical paperwork signed by parents for mediation drop off (inhalers, OTC sealed medications, all prescription prescribed pills must be counted and verified by a licensed nurse only) and verify medication receipt with RN/LPN on staff
  • Receive medical files from enrollment department; process all new student paperwork for the district and contact parents and or medical providers to fulfill admission requirements
  • Maintain and assist the CSAT Nursing team (RN/LPN/Director of Nursing Services) with the maintenance of health records
  • Generate weekly/monthly periodic and special reports, lists, labels, and other data as required by the school Nurse and/or the Lead Nurse or Administration
  • Assist CSAT nursing team with the organization and performance of basic hearing and screening tests during school hours; while maintaining all records and data information in eschool from health screening results conducted by CSAT nursing team for all students K-12
  • Provide first aid for ill or injured students and staff as guided by NYS Office of Professions
  • Maintain all medical knowledge of the NYS regulations for school health office
  • Maintain supplies in the health office and prepare purchase requisitions for needed supplies; including the receipt of all shipments and supplies as they arrive, log, and put away inventory
  • Serve as nursing assistant for medical issues that may arise at the other CSAT buildings
  • Assist nurses, Director of Nursing Services, sports coaches, and Athletic Director with physicals for upcoming sports seasons and document data
  • Assist Director of Nursing Services, with the training of all new and current nursing staff on Eschool, Operoo and/or any other CSAT computer systems and paperwork as appropriate for the health office
  • Attend/take an appropriate a yearly training to remain current and up to date on current information to support the school health assistant position
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Director of Nursing Services, and /or Administration as requested

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), a certificate prepared graduate of an Accredited Nursing Institution or Vocational School
  • Active NYS Nursing License without restrictions or
