Data Warehouse Architect

The Data Warehouse Architect has the responsibility to drive and coordinate the technical execution of enterprise data warehouse solutions and services that includes understanding business requirement, solution design, Data Extraction, Transformation and Integration architecture, development, testing, deployment and ongoing operational support. The DW Architect will assist in project execution and engage directly with project technical staff and Business stakeholders. This role is responsible to provide technical & functional leadership on data warehouse solutions.

Job Description:

Requirements & Analysis Responsibilities (30%)

• Elicit requirements from business users, create work breakdown structure, plan and execute deliverables

• Responsible to investigate, Analyze and understand data contents of source data systems

• Understands, uses and adheres to dimensional modeling techniques for data warehouse design

• Research, evaluate, identify alternative approaches, recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems ranging from small to large work efforts for low to high complexity problems

• Define/Improve coding standards, comply with standards and guidelines related to the design, construction, testing and deployment activities as established by departmental and organizational standard

• Demonstrate collaborative skills working within a project team of diverse skills and will bring communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills to a challenging environment

• Understands dependencies and timing issues between source systems and data warehouse operations

• Works directly with business process experts, Business Managers, BI Analysts, and IT Leadership to understand requirements for data warehouse development projects

• Identify opportunities in processes, system capabilities and delivery methodologies for continuous improvement as applicable to bring DW operations more matured.

• Must be able to drive DW initiatives for a certain subject area independently without any guidance.

Design and Solution Blueprint Responsibilities (40%)

• Data warehouse dimensional modeling/design and documentation.

• Design Data Architecture for DW components

• Drive UAT activities with business partners to ensure solutions meet business requirements.

• Lead DW/BI initiatives from ideation to completion

• Ensures standard data elements are maintained across all data structures in DW

• Define, Develop and lead implementation of long-term Strategy and road map for Data Warehousing, Data Science & ML

Development and Support Responsibilities (30%)

• ETL development and testing using tool like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Talend or Future technologies based on Roadmap

• SQL Server / Snowflake Query, DDL/DML scripting

• SAP Business Object Data Services understanding and configuration

• Unix/Linux Shell Scripting

• Some Power BI understanding

• Upon notification of a problem during “off-hours”, will stay with that problem to resolution unless the problem has been handed off to another support person who agrees to take responsibility for said problem.

• If an “off-hours” problem cannot be resolved, it will then be escalated to the appropriate staff resource.

Qualifications and Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s Degree Required – Type: Information Technology, Computer Science or related field

• 9+ years of full Software Development Life Cycle experience

• 7+ years practical experience with any ETL tool with complex transformation business rules implementation. 3+ years’ experience with SSIS or ADF, Talend.

• 1+ year of experience in implementing and supporting DW in any cloud platform.

• 3+ years practical experience with writing SQL queries including complex queries

• 5+ years practical experience working on data warehouse projects using dimensional modeling

• Ability to analyze the existing SSIS Code for improvements, enhancements, conversion and problem solving

• Demonstrated ability in collecting and documenting requirements

• Strong troubleshooting capability/skills

• Strong communication and presentation skills both verbal and written
