Director/Senior Director, DATA SCIENCE: 84.51° Labs  

CINCINNATI, OHIO;  CHICAGO, IL;  REMOTE

SUMMARY:

We leverage large volumes of data to develop powerful sciences and actionable insights using cutting edge machine learning, natural language processing, and mathematical techniques to improve products, processes, and systems that positively impact our customers. We lead our organization in identifying and adopting the tools and technologies that will continue to position our company as the recognized data science leader within our industry.

The Director/Senior Director of DATA SCIENCE – 84.51° Labs will lead data science development and embed data science-driven decisions across the 84.51 Lab’s Research and Development Teams to create to the broader 84.51° and Kroger enterprise. They will be a member of the 84.51 Labs Leadership team.  They are responsible for creating, leading, and developing a data science and researcher team focused on cutting edge research and leading high-risk, high reward innovation development across the Enterprise, including leadership of a team of around 15 senior researchers, ML engineers and data scientists.  In addition to strong technical skills, this individual should be an expert in advanced data science, machine learning, and the scientific research process. They are accountable for developing standards, scoping approaches, and delivering capabilities that drive value for our customers.  They will ensure the right science is developed and deployed based on the long-range plans within 84.51° Labs. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Mentor, manage and motivate people leaders and individual contributors of data scientists and researchers to ensure they are given the support and guidance they need to carry out their role successfully (total team size ~15ppl)
• Responsible for data science technical delivery and application of major data science initiatives for the Labs team, across both value streams (Research & Rapid Development Teams)
• Liaise with 84.51 Labs Strategy Lead and other Function leads and KTD R&D stakeholders to develop the appropriate solution and influence broader Labs strategy which will deliver maximum value to our clients.
• Interpret client business objectives to understand their requirements and oversee the production of technical project plans; ensuring that we are using cutting edge data science technologies and techniques.

• Oversee development of consistent data science/AI strategy, components, and patterns to scale and surface sciences through the Kroger and 84.51° enterprise.
• Support cross-functional business teams to create and deliver a data science plan to deliver current and future roadmaps.
• Demonstrate thought leadership to drive step-change innovation to 84.51° and Kroger technology ecosystems and identify incremental improvements to 84.51° products and capabilities.

• Ensure that we are delivering solutions that are at the forefront of industry leading techniques while also adhering to data science and enterprise best practices and standards.
• Mentor, manage and motivate a team of data scientists and researchers to ensure they are given the support and guidance they need to carry out their role successfully.
• Resource allocation for 84.51° Labs Strategy and Data Science Function priorities, including prioritization and mobilization of data scientist talent to maximize value creation.
• Responsible for the recruitment and resource plan of the functional and strategy team
• Leads Technical Track career path evolution in partnership with Functional Talent Lead
