This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will assist in the design and development of navigation system for a variety of re-usable launch and space vehicle applications. You will drive trade studies to evaluate the sensor performance and down select most suitable navigation sensors or technologies for development, integration, qualification and flight. Your contributions will enable cost-effective, state-of-the-art navigation solutions for launch and space vehicles.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead trades on navigation sensor options, configurations, performance evaluation, etc. to guide optimal product specifications to support vehicle architecture.
  • Take ownership of the electrical design aspects of the navigation sensors, from initial selection, integration to qualification and installation on the vehicle.
  • Support the GN&C subsystem stakeholders with a cross-functional mindset to facilitate subsystem and system level architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, Navigation Systems, Software, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, Production Support engineers to ensure smooth execution of the development efforts.
  • Support safety and reliability studies to ensure navigation sensors meet system requirements for re-usable launch vehicles.
  • Support system integration and verification activity, via vehicle HIL, static and dynamic testing, flight tests, periodic vehicle integration and testing, post-launch refurb testing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in electrical engineering or related technical discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Direct hands-on experience developing complex commercial or aerospace electronic assemblies, designing custom cards and/or integrating COTS hardware.  
  • Hands-on experience prototyping, debugging, and testing, proficient in the use of electrical test equipment (e.g. multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, network analyzers, spectrum analyzer, RF signal simulators, etc.)
  • Cognizant of EMI/EMC standards, DO-160 Environmental Test standards, IEC & automotive standards or equivalent.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
