Corning Research & Development Corporation seeks Sr. Scientist to work in Painted Post, NY. Apply materials science & chemical interactions knowledge to develop thermal processes to develop glass & glass ceramics w/ specific optical, mechanical, & electrical properties; transfer & scale up thermal processes to engineering & manufacturing; support continuous improvement activities, new product/process introductions, & cost reduction projects; apply knowledge of material properties, interactions, & scientific principles to mitigate defects in glass & glass ceramic materials. Requires: master’s degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related. 2 yrs. exp. characterizing material properties, understanding defect mechanisms, & analyzing data to predict material performance.

 

2 yrs. exp.: using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), optical profilometer, & Raman spectroscopy to characterize materials; using statistical software (e.g. Matlab, JMP, minitab) to model data. 1 yr. exp.: using CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) & FEA tools (e.g. Ansys, Abaqus) to design, model, & analyze data; developing thermal, mechanical, or optical processes for brittle materials. Rate of Pay: $122,998 - $140,175/year

The range for this position is $122,998  - $140,175 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
