Your Purpose at Evonik

As the Senior R&D Scientist in our new Silicones & Surfactant Characterization group, you will lead the development of advanced silicones and surfactants, working at the intersection of cutting-edge research and sustainability.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in Evonik’s innovation pipeline by driving high-impact research initiatives, mentoring a diverse team of talented scientists, and partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet the needs of today and tomorrow. RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Senior R&D Scientist, you will contribute to exciting and impactful work, including:

Strategic Leadership

• Lead research initiatives to execute the innovation strategy of the business line.

• Manage a portfolio of development projects to align with business goals and customer needs.

• Provide technical expertise and strategic guidance in silicones and surfactants.

Collaboration and Engagement

• Provide technical expertise and strategic guidance in silicones, surfactants and their characterization.

• Partner with Marketing, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Product Management teams to translate research into impactful solutions.

• Represent Evonik at industry conferences and seminars, staying ahead of emerging technologies and trends.

• Build and nurture external partnerships with universities, startups, and other collaborators.

Team and Laboratory Excellence

• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring adherence to safety standards and corporate guidelines.

• Lead and mentor a high-performing team of scientists and technicians, fostering professional growth and collaboration.

• Promote an environment that values diversity, respect, and innovation.

Technical Excellence

• Develop sustainable materials using advanced synthesis and analytical techniques.

• Monitor the intellectual property landscape, contributing to the protection and advancement of innovations.

• Identify opportunities to optimize existing technologies and introduce new solutions.

What We’re Looking For

At Evonik, we value a range of experiences, perspectives, and expertise. To excel in this role, we are seeking candidates with:

Education and Experience

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field, with expertise in silicones, surfactants, or advanced analytical methods.

• At least 3 years of post-graduate experience in research and development, preferably within the chemical or materials industries.

Technical Expertise

• Proven skills in synthetic chemistry, materials development, and analytical techniques.

• A track record of success in managing multidisciplinary projects and driving innovation.
