Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Bioarchaeology and Dental Anthropology
Arizona State UniversityAbout the role
Description
Job Details and Essential Duties
The NSF-funded projects (Dental Phenomics Project and Gobero Bioarchaeology Project) in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) at Arizona State University is recruiting one Postdoctoral Research Scholar under the supervision of Dr. Christopher Stojanowski. The postdoctoral research scholar will ideally be able to contribute to both projects, but it is understood the individual may focus more on one project as their research interests best align. The Gobero Bioarchaeology Project seeks to understand human adaptation to the changing Saharan environment during the African Humid Period; the postdoctoral scholar would have the opportunity to develop their own research (especially on paleopathology) while supporting the final phases of bioarchaeological analysis. The Dental Phenomics Project archives 3D scans and scaled digital images from multiple human dental casts collections, most with genealogical information, to support quantitative genetic work on human dental phenotypes; the postdoctoral scholar would have the opportunity to develop their own research (especially on quantitative genetics) while supporting the overall management of the project’s resources.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Help manage the resources and daily lab activities of the Dental Phenomics Project and/or the Gobero Bioarchaeology Project.
- Collect image and scan data using the latest technology.
- Develop existing research questions and novel research directions using project resources in consultation with project Principal Investigators.
- Collaborate on the preparation of publications and the general dissemination of knowledge generated from the project.
- This position may contribute to the teaching mission of the School in consultation with the faculty mentor and the SHESC Director.
This is an in-person, full-time, fiscal-year, term-limited 1-year position. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025.
The fiscal year (12-month) salary for this position is $60,000 along with competitive benefits through ASU including health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. The appointment may be renewable for an additional year pending sufficient funding and successful execution of the project’s goals. The postdoctoral research scholar should be in residence in the greater-Phoenix metropolitan area during the appointment.
