Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assess physical, mental, and psychological status of patient using age-appropriate knowledge within surgical specialty and patients served.
• Plans, evaluates and supervises care of all patients assigned
• Works collaboratively with other disciplines in care of patients to provide excellent service to patients served.
• Coordinates and participates in formal and informal educational programs, in-services and performance improvement activities to improve technical skills within PACU
• Responsible for continued learning and application to practice within PACU
• Synthesizes patient care information to formulate appropriate nursing diagnosis.
• Responsible to provide patient and family education to population served.
• Work practice reflects philosophy purpose and policies of the hospital and department based upon evidence based best practices and ASPAN standards
• Assumes call coverage within 30 minutes travel time from hospital.
• Coordinates care in conjunction with Surgery to ensure safe and proactive patient planning by addressing needs.
• Coordinates with Staff Ed to mentor new RNs within specialty.

Education/Experience Required:

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
• Recent charge nurse experience in the 3 months.
• Evidence of continuing education.
• Demonstrated proficiency in basic nursing process.
• Three years experience with proficiency in PACU
• Proactive, interpersonal written and verbal communication skills-evidenced based and best practice.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities in order to remove barriers, solve problems and plan service delivery.

Registration/Certification:

• Current RN Massachusetts License
• BLS Certification maintained
• ACLS Certification maintained 
• PALS Certification maintained
