The Opportunity:

The Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering (VSCEB) is recruiting a tenure-track faculty at either the assistant professor or associate professor level, depending on candidates’ qualifications (please refer to the required and preferred qualifications section below). The successful candidate is expected to establish a dynamic, externally funded, nationally recognized research program, teach core and elective undergraduate and graduate courses in bioengineering and/or chemical engineering, mentor a diverse group of students, perform professional service, and publish scholarly work. VSCEB welcomes strong candidates working in the fields of experimental metabolic engineering, microbial engineering, or synthetic biology to address challenges in any of the following areas: energy, environment, and health-related research. Preference will be given to candidates working at the interface of chemical engineering and bioengineering to uniquely strengthen our existing research programs. VSCEB has a strong focus on the research of catalysis, CO2 fixing, plastic recycling, electrosymbiotic engineering, microbial biofilms, metabolic engineering, molecular programming, human health-related protein and tissue engineering, and biomechanics. Successful candidates are expected to build collaborations within the Voiland School and with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, other WSU departments, nationally and internationally.

Required Qualifications for all candidates at all ranks:

  • An earned PhD in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field prior to the start of the appointment.

  • Ability to teach core bioengineering and/or chemical engineering classes and commit to services and collaborate with diverse internal and external groups.

  • Demonstrated record of scholarly work.

Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor:

  • The potential to establish a strong, nationally recognized research program with extramural funding that complements and uniquely enhances existing programs within the school and Washington State University.

Required Qualifications for Associate Professor:

  • A record of a robust, nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program that complements and uniquely strengthens existing programs within the school and Washington State University.

Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Professor:

  • Experience serving as teaching assistant for Chemical Engineering and/or Bioengineering classes.

Preferred Qualifications for Associate Professor:

Annual Salary:
