The Dean of Career and Academic Planning provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for academic and career advising functions across Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, including Pathway Advising, Career Services and TRIO. The role focuses on helping students navigate academic programs and career options, aligning educational pathways with workforce opportunities, and supporting student progression toward completion.

The Dean provides strategic and operational leadership for a defined area of the student experience, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and a seamless, student-centered approach to recruitment, engagement, retention, and completion.

This role is responsible for advancing student success through data-informed decision-making, cross-functional collaboration, and effective management of programs, services, and staff. The Dean works closely with academic and administrative leaders to implement strategies that support enrollment, persistence, and equitable outcomes for all students.

The position plays a key role in institutional planning, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts, ensuring that services are responsive, efficient, and aligned with the mission of the College.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, career services, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services, advising, career services, or related areas.
  • Two years of management or supervisory experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success providing strategic enrollment leadership within a multi-college or district-level community college environment.
  • Experience overseeing admissions, enrollment services, and/or registrar operations, including supervision of professional staff.
  • Proven ability to use enrollment and student success data to improve recruitment, retention, persistence, and completion outcomes.
  • Experience implementing or supporting Guided Pathways-aligned enrollment and onboarding practices.

Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Provides districtwide leadership in the design, implementation, assessment and continuous improvement of academic advising and career services aligned with EICC’s strategic plan and Guided Pathways model.
  • Provides leadership, supervision, and professional development for managers and staff within functional area.
  • Develops and manages districtwide budgets related to functional area, ensuring responsible resource allocation aligned with institutional priorities.
