About the role

The Equipment Assistant for Football reports to the Assistant Athletic Director of Equipment and assists in the day-to-day operation of the football equipment department.  This position also works closely with the various support areas within the program: Director of Football Equipment, Assistant Director of Equipment for Football, Director of Football Operations, Athletic Training Staff, Strength and Conditioning, and Video Services.

  Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Equipment:  Equip entire staff and team with daily equipment needs. Duties include receiving, inventory, and maintaining equipment for the Football Equipment Room. Requires a knowledge of apparel, protective equipment, and footwear specific to the football program. Responsible for maintenance to all outdoor equipment including sleds, chutes, and practice equipment.
     
  • Apparel and Protective Equipment: Procures Nike apparel and equipment for the football equipment room. Coordinates the return of laundry and practice dress for players and coaches every day. Possesses extensive knowledge of protective equipment including helmets and shoulder pads. Assists with helmet reconditioning, shoulder pads, and other safety related equipment. Oversees student managers with tasks including but not limited to helmet construction, helmet stickering, helmet cleaning and shoulder pad disinfecting. Creates schedule for weekly cleaning of player equipment to prevent MRSA and other bacteria.
     
  • Fitting:  Properly fit all protective equipment, apparel, and shoes for the student-athletes to ensure that a safe fit has been maintained. Make sure all protective equipment used passes NOCSAE (National Operating Committee for the Standards of Athletic Equipment) Reconditioning, and Recertification standards. Must meet minimum requirements for AEMA Certification and be able to acquire certification in near future.
     
  • Practice/Weight Training Operations:  Attends all Football practices throughout the year. Responsible for practice set-up which includes communication with coaches for field equipment needed, organization of field set-up and proper maintenance of daily practice equipment. Stores and resets practice fields daily and following long breaks in training. Oversees assigned areas during practices and organizes student mangers as needed. Serves as liaison between football equipment and groups such as facilities and grounds crew to ensure safe conditions before and during practices.
     
  • Game Day Responsibilities:  Directly responsible for the organization, packing and distribution of all players’ extra equipment and supplies for contests home and away. Returns player helmets to game condition weekly which includes the removal of scuffs, changing of stickers and disinfecting inside pads. Prepares locker rooms for meetings pregame and halftime. Ensures a clean locker room upon departure. Organizes truck loading and unloading and the placement of game equipment when not in use.
     
  • All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Equipment

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree is necessary.
  • Prior experience with a Division I athletics equipment room is necessary.
  • High level of organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities is necessary.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as events require is necessary.
  • Previous experience with inventory and budget control is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and SEC rules and regulations are preferred.
