Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director, Participations & Residuals to lead our global participation reporting functions for scripted and unscripted programs. This role will be responsible for ensuring reporting compliance across various cable networks. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in contract interpretation for contingent compensation, risk management, and process optimization, working closely with executive leadership to support business growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Oversee and manage the setup and review of participation statements for Versant’s global portfolio of content by supporting contract analysis and review, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strategic insight in financial reporting and payments
- Ensure seamless financial operations for timely, accurate and complete statements by enhancing reporting capabilities, addressing system limitations, and driving continuous process improvements.
- Develop and implement best practices for contract administration, ensuring alignment with evolving business models and market trends.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks through strategic deal analysis
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as a strategic partner to FP&A, Controllership, Legal & Business Affairs, Strategic Planning, Marketing, and Production teams, providing financial guidance on key business initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance financial systems, data integrity, and process automation.
- Drive operational excellence by optimizing team workflows, enhancing analytical capabilities, and implementing best practices.
Process Optimization & System Enhancements
- Assist in the long-term strategy of Versant’s technology landscape related to participations & residuals reporting and compliance
- Lead training initiatives to ensure team is equipped with the knowledge and tools needed for accurate contract analysis and financial reporting.
- Spearhead continuous improvement efforts, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance financial operations and reporting accuracy.
People
- Supervise day-to-day activities of Senior Financial Analyst
- Provide coaching and training to junior staff
- Foster a team culture focused on continuous improvement and collaboration
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in financial contract reporting or related fields, preferably in the entertainment industry.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience with contract analysis and reporting.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence executive decision-making.
