The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has a full-time opportunity available for a Senior Hazardous Waste Policy Analyst (Operations and Policy Analyst 3) in Portland, Oregon.

The Land Quality programs support this mission by assessing and managing environmental cleanups, promoting manufacturing and recycling of non-toxic commercial products, safely managing the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes, administering the state’s underground storage tank and heating oil tank programs, and responding to spills of oil and hazardous materials.

The Hazardous Waste and Tanks Section protects human health and the environment by reducing the generation and ensuring safe management of hazardous waste and toxic chemicals. This program affects approximately 500 businesses that are large and small quantity generators and thousands of businesses who are conditionally exempt generators. The program is responsible for inspecting hazardous waste generators, working with businesses to reduce toxic chemical and hazardous waste use, and providing technical assistance to businesses on hazardous waste issues.

What you will do!

You will serve as a senior policy analyst and hazardous waste program expert, analyzing hazardous waste management issues, developing policies for addressing the issues, and ensuring regulations and policies are applied consistently. You will provide complex level policy and consultative advice on administrative policy, program, and management aspects of the hazardous waste program. You will represent the hazardous waste section at state and national levels on issues affecting the hazardous waste program.  In addition, you will ensure hazardous waste issues are properly addressed during cross program policy discussions and initiatives.
