The Medical Assistant Residency intended start date is January 13, 2025
Information about the program:
• CPR/BLS card not required at time of hire. To be obtained within 4weeks of hire date (via MultiCare)
By participating in this program, you would be hired into a full-time MA-Resident position. Upon successful completion of the program and passing the certification exam, you would be eligible to be hired into a full-time MA- Certified position.
Earn a paycheck while getting paid training by MultiCare.
• This is a paid training program. You will be compensated as a full-time employee for the duration of the program.
• Program participants are eligible for benefits after the appropriate waiting period.
Time Commitment:
• The program is typically 4.5-5 months long depending on holidays. There are no extended breaks for Paid Time Off (PTO) during the training period.
• During the training period, some days of the week will be in classroom or hands-on skills environment while others are in clinic learning side-by side with a current Medical Assistant Certified. Those days are variable depending on the stage of the program.
•Typical hours are between 8am and 5pm, with potential minor variation while working in the clinic.
- Weeks 1-3: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday at Puyallup MultiCare University (MCU)
- Week 4: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at MCU. Thursday is in clinic for the first shadow day (shadowing your mentor on their day-to-day tasks and patient schedule).
- Week 5: Monday, Tuesday and Friday at MCU. Wednesday and Thursday in clinic for last two shadow days.
- Week 6: Monday, Tuesday and Friday at MCU. Wednesday is the first hands on day (residents starting to room patients and take vitals as well as other MA tasks) and continues on Thursday.
- Weeks 7-10: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at MCU. Wednesday and Thursday in clinic. From here on the residents will start to increase the number of days in clinic and will have less days at MCU.
• If offered a position, the candidate will sign a two-year agreement to remain employed with MultiCare in a Medical Assistant role.
The Medical Assistant Registration and Medical Assistant Certification will be:
• Medical Assistant Registration: This will be started during the program. MultiCare will cover the cost and will be obtained via the Training Program and in collaboration with MultiCare after your start date.
• The Medical Assistant-Certification will be filed towards the end of the program, which will be approved by the Department of Health after completion of clinical hours and passing the national certification exam.
Required Supplies:
- Heather Grey Scrubs: Will be wearing 5 days a week
- Footwear with socks. Footwear should full encase toes and heels, with a reasonably "rigid" material. Must be clean and in good repair.
- Notebook/Notecards/pens, etc. are optional if you prefer to take notes and color code things.
- Stethoscope - Will be used in school, in clinic, and after graduation. (Many people like Littman. A basic one will do. It can run about $55.00 for the basic one. You can get any brand/style you prefer.
- A waterproof watch with a second hand is required. (No smartwatches, it does not work well as the screen does not remain lit up for the duration of time needed.)
