Job Description
The Senior Manager, Events Programming will bring to life dynamic and original events that invite our readers into the story with interactive live experiences. The Senior Manager will report to the Executive Director of Event Programming, and work with teams across the company to bring these highly visible, deeply collaborative projects to life.
The Senior Manager will plan and execute events that showcase our content, engage our audience, and elevate our brand. We are looking for a creative person with a passion for media, an eye for detail, and exceptional leadership skills to drive the success of our event programming.
We're looking for an events dynamo with a keen understanding of audience engagement who has experience building robust, multi-platform packages. You have flawless news judgment, a flair for counter programming, and deep comfort with developing strategies to extend event afterlife. You come with a network of contacts in business, culture and science. Original, flexible, critical thinkers who communicate and collaborate well with a wide range of contributors and stakeholders will thrive.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.
Responsibilities:
Research and pitch leaders to feature in our live journalism and oversee outreach efforts to these individuals, building relationships with high-level speakers and their teams while preparing them to take part in our events
Develop the arc of each on-stage conversation, and coach interviewers and moderators
Collaborate with the wider editorial team to ensure programming reflects The New York Times’s editorial voice and mission, while upholding the highest standards of journalism
Write and edit event-related copy, including run of shows and scripts, as well as outreach and preparatory material
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of experience
Experience programming high-visibility live events, giving you a deep understanding of market-wide trends, themes, and current cultural events
An ability to discover, recommend, and source talent with an eye to emerging talent, new names, uncovering untold stories and rising stars
You are well-sourced with experience working closely with both journalists and high-level talent
Strong editorial judgment, and voracious consumption of culture and media
