About the role
Based in our San Antonio, TX headquarters, the Sr. Director of Total Rewards will serve as a strategic leader and player-coach, responsible for the design, innovation, and communication of CHG’s total rewards programs, including compensation structures, incentive pay, benefits, and the HRIS (Workday) platform. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can align total rewards strategies with business objectives, ensuring CHG remains competitive in attracting, retaining, and engaging top talent. The primary scope of responsibility is for North American compensation and benefits but will also be accountable for harmonization and standardization across our global footprint. The Sr. Director will also be accountable for developing a small, high-performing team while driving continuous improvement and modernization in compensation and benefits practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Alignment
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CHRO and business leaders, ensuring total rewards programs directly support business performance, talent strategy, and culture.
- Translate business strategy into actionable total rewards programs that attract, retain, and engage top talent.
- Lead discussions at both detailed program design level and with senior executives, tailoring communication for different audiences.
- Scope of the strategic discussions will be global, with harmonization and standardization within a region / country (as well as across the enterprise) a priority
- Direct external partners (benefits brokers, medical/insurance providers, compensation consultants, etc.) to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and innovation in program design and delivery.
Compensation & Rewards
- Design, implement, and evaluate compensation structures, base pay systems, and incentive pay programs to ensure alignment with business goals.
- Conduct benchmarking and market analysis to maintain competitive positioning, particularly within manufacturing and food industry peer groups.
- Partner with leaders on workforce planning, pay-for-performance strategies, and recognition programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing compensation.
- Scope will be a global compensation philosophy, with appropriate regional customization; individual will be accountable and responsible for the NA comp programs (including salary. Incentive compensation, profit sharing) and providing direction to local compensation experts in other regions.

HRIS (Workday)
- Lead and optimize Workday as the central global HRIS platform, ensuring accurate data, compliance, and usability.
- Oversee reporting, analytics, and dashboards that provide actionable workforce insights for leadership.
- Drive process improvements and automation within HRIS to support scalability and efficiency.
- Partner with IT and external vendors to ensure system stability, enhancements, and data security.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree a plus.
- 15+ years of progressive total rewards experience focused on compensation and benefits, with 7+ years in a leadership role
- Hands-on experience managing HRIS platforms, preferably Workday.
- Leadership and hands on experience with NA compensation and benefits programs required; experience with compensation and benefits programs in the UK, Germany, Belgium and / or Austria a plus.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry required, experience in the food manufacturing industry a plus.
