About the role

ROLE
We are seeking a Civil Litigation Paralegal to support the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin (USAO EDWI) in Milwaukee, WI. In this role, you will support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) on Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) matters by organizing case information, coordinating key documentation, and helping keep filings and trial prep on track.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide direct paralegal support to AUSAs for ACE investigations and trials
  • Identify and obtain facts from federal, state, and local agencies, witnesses, and counsel
  • Apply legal authorities and current case law to independently gather case material
  • Read and summarize transcripts, files, and other factual records
  • Collect financial, statistical, agency, and court records from public and nonpublic sources
  • Analyze documents and discovery materials to support case strategy
  • Draft factually precise legal memoranda for attorney review
  • Review financial and management operations records for varied organizations
  • Interpret financial data and statistical evaluations for oral and written reporting
  • Examine healthcare records, including medical files, billing records, and Medicaid or Medicare data
  • Assess case files against legal standards and document deficiencies
  • Request additional investigation to resolve missing or inconsistent case materials
  • Organize, inventory, and process large volumes of records, data, and discovery
  • Prepare exhibits for settlement discussions, discovery requests, and trial use
  • Deliver automated litigation support for complex trial preparation and courtroom presentations
  • Produce trial charts and visual materials using scanners, plotters, and related graphics tools
  • Operate Westlaw, Lexis, electronic case filing systems, and document scanning software
  • Use I Pro Eclipse or Relativity, Case Map, Time Map, and Trial Director or similar tools
  • Maintain Microsoft Office proficiency across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Meet AUSA and court deadlines while sustaining at least 95 percent accuracy


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Skilled in analyzing relevant statistics in case files against case law and litigation worthiness standards
  • Skilled in analyzing relevant legal precedent and summarizing findings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • At least 5 years of comparable paralegal experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for any potential work-related travel
  • Experienced with interpreting voluminous case materials to offer correction to case files (e.g. inconsistent material, etc.)
  • Experience in reviewing, sorting, classifying data to discover patterns of possible discriminatory activity.

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • A four-year undergraduate degree preferred
  • Paralegal certification preferred
