Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

Position Brand Description:
The objective of this position is to provide technical support and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programs and processes. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring HSE compliance and to be a champion for Operational Excellence including two key Manufacturing Standards of Excellence (MSOE) outcomes: Nobody Gets Hurt and Sustainable Use of Environmental Resources. This position is in the HSE department. This role is technical leadership position responsible for technical mentorship and influencing the broader organization in support of our HSE vision.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Manage for Results /Strategic Planning:
- Develop, implement, sustain, and own HSE programs and procedures.
- Serve as a technical expert on HSE practices at the site and regulatory interpretations/inspections.
- Lead cross-functional teams with the implementation/sustainment of HSE programs, including metric trending for improved site HSE performance.
- Support site operations as an area frontline and/or flow team HSE representative.
- Advise in facility/equipment design, project walkthroughs, and evaluation to control or eliminate HSE risks.
- Lead key elements of the HSE management system such as event and change management processes, training, assessments/audits, business planning, and inspections.
- Approve deviations, work plans, actions, change controls, SOPs, Job Plans, etc.
- Collaborate with HSE SMEs at other sites and global to enhance the broader HSE function and continue personal development in HSE topics.
- Monitor and operationalize internal and external best practices.
- Support development of functional priorities and annual HSE action plan(s).
- Owner of HSE Programs –Lockout/Tagout, Line Breaking, Machine Guarding, Crane/Hoist/Sling safety, Lilly LIFE, Facility Self-Assessment Program, Auditing, etc.
- Oversee local health center personnel managing injury/illness case management and promote wellbeing programs.
- Serve as a backup to site HSE leader. Support HSE leader to develop functional priorities, annual HSE plan, monthly metrics, HSE communications for various forums.
Manage Relationships with Key Stakeholders and Customers:
- Demonstrated abilities to work cross functionally, achieve results with others, and negotiate win-win solutions.
Staff Development and Management:
- Ability to collaborate with staff and develop junior staff members.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related HSE discipline, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or public health.
- 10+ years' experience in Manufacturing Industrial Safety.
Additional Skills/Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance with the appropriate HSE standards and requirements, and application of HSE principles in a pharmaceutical manufacturing setting.
- Well organized and capable of developing, implementing, and enforcing health and safety policies and procedures necessary to provide for a safe and healthy working environment.
- Development and delivery of HSE training.
- 5+ years’ experience in an HSE role supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Strong computer application skills.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
- Experience working with external regulatory agency (i.e., OSHA, EPA, etc.).
