Senior UI Engineer

About the role

Imagine building something once, and the next week, 13 product teams are using it to ship faster, more consistent experiences to hundreds of thousands of end users.

And then imagine knowing that what you build is not just another component, but part of the foundation — accessible, reliable, tested — and setting the standard for how a cohesive UI is designed and built across the product.

That’s the kind of impact you’ll have here.

As our Senior UI Engineer at e-conomic — Denmark’s leading accounting platform — you’ll join the Design System team that already powers the work of dozens of engineers and designers. But to truly scale, it needs to evolve.

Luckily, that’s where you come in.

Your impact

You will bridge design and development, shaping a system that 13 product teams rely on every day. The components, patterns, and documentation you create will ripple across the product, and enable our teams to move faster, raising quality, and making adoption feel effortless.

Your work

Much of your time will be spent shaping, building, and refining the components in our design system in close collaboration with UX Designers from the earliest stages. We’re looking for someone who brings an engineering mindset, but also understands how UX and design decisions affect what we build and why. You’ll help ask the right questions, connect user needs with technical realities, and build components that reflect both. Finally, collaboration with product teams will be a constant, enabling them to adopt, integrate, and evolve the system in practice.

A part of the above, a week in this role might include:

Problem scoping for both the design and engineering aspects

Developing and maintaining UI components in React using TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS

Documenting components in a way that makes adoption simple and clear

Joining design and code reviews that shape both technical and collaborative standards

How we envision the Design System Team

We are a small, dedicated Design Systems team, and with a mix of designers and engineers, we bridge design and development every day. We care about doing things right, not just fast, which means open discussions, shared ownership, and a culture that values support over lone-wolf heroics.

Right now, we’re starting to envision a future, where we move from a reactive ticket-driven approach to a more proactive, transparent and scalable practice. It is a bit like changing the tires while the car is moving. Challenging, but full of impact in the long run.

You will work closely with teammates who are technical, thoughtful, and collaborative, and with Kim, who leads the team with transparency, empathy, and a focus on sustainable development.

What about AI AI AI

You might be wondering: what about AI?

Well, in all honesty, we’d like to say we’re already using it to streamline documentation, scaffolding, and release notes. But we’re not quite there yet. We’re still in the early stages of figuring out where it fits in, and how to use it responsibly across our engineering practices.

What we do know is that AI can be powerful, but only when paired with human judgment. Accessibility, usability, and long-term maintainability still rely on people who care about doing things right.

Whether you're curious about AI or already experimenting with it, what matters most is that you bring a thoughtful, critical mindset to how — and when — it's used.

What we’re looking for

Technical proficiency

Deep expertise in HTML and CSS, with a profound understanding of semantics, layout, and modern styling techniques

Proficiency in React and TypeScript

A solid grasp of accessibility and usability principles

Experience with (or appetite to grow into) design systems and component libraries

Human skills

Clear communication and a collaborative mindset

A thoughtful approach: strong opinions, loosely held, with a focus on doing things right over doing them fast

Craft and quality mindset

Strives for excellence and can strike the right balance between us
