About the role

SUMMARY

Reports to the Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor. Under the supervision of a pharmacist and Purchasing Specialist, receives medications and pharmaceutical supplies (i.e., stock) at the loading dock and transports within the Consolidated Service Center (CSC). Identifies suspected illegitimate products received and takes appropriate action. Initiates and executes electronic tracing of medications and pharmaceutical supplies received into and transferred out of the CSC. Receives, signs, processes, sorts, and files pharmacy supply documents in accordance with Brown University Health policies and procedures. Performs duties in compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Chapter 800 Hazardous Drugs - Handling in Healthcare Settings, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommendations for hazardous drug handling. Adheres to USP Chapter 795 Pharmaceutical Compounding – Nonsterile Preparations procedures to repackage bulk non-sterile pharmaceutical products for Brown University Health facilities. Prepares medication for distribution to replenish inventory at Brown University Health facilities. Prioritizes and coordinates logistics for shipping of medications to appropriate Brown University Health facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives medications and pharmaceutical supplies at the loading dock and transports within the Consolidated Service Center (CSC). Identifies suspected illegitimate medications and pharmaceutical supplies received and takes appropriate action. Initiates and executes electronic tracing of medications and pharmaceutical supplies received and electronically traces medications and pharmaceutical supplies transferred out of the CSC. Utilizes computerized systems to perform stock receiving and inventory operations; troubleshoots systems as needed. Receives, signs, processes, sorts, and files pharmacy supply chain documents in accordance with Brown University Health policies and procedures. Performs duties in compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Chapter 800 Hazardous Drugs - Handling in Healthcare Settings, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommendations for hazardous drug handling. Ensures stocks of hazardous sterile and nonsterile medications are appropriately identified, segregated, and stored. Stocks and maintains medication and pharmaceutical supply inventory within the CSC ensuring proper conditions for light, temperature, sanitation, and segregation. Serves as point of contact for pharmacy supply chain related communications for in person, telephone, email, or facsimile generated messages and requests. Provides timely and accurate written and verbal communication to staff, management, and customers regarding stock receiving and pharmacy supply chain. Prepares and repackages bulk non-sterile, non-hazardous pharmaceutical products using proper technique, labeling, and expiration dating for distribution to offsite Brown University Health facilities. Adheres to USP Chapter 795 Pharmaceutical Compounding – Nonsterile Preparations procedures. Prepares and labels medications for distribution to replenish inventory at Brown University Health facilities in accordance with pharmacist approved packaging and labeling records. Processes medication requisitions for departments and laboratories, obtains pharmacist verification prior to distribution. Performs routine preventive maintenance and calibration to equipment in CSC according to standards. Troubleshoots equipment appropriately as needed. Participates in quality control and quality assurance initiatives related to pharmacy supply chain. Maintains cleanliness and organization of pharmacy supply chain areas. Independently prioritizes and coordinates logistics for shipping of medications to appropriate Brown University Health facilities. Reviews and analyzes pharmacy supply chain operations and workflow on a periodic basis, recommends changes for consideration to optimize efficiency. Collaborates with Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor and Purchasing Specialists to implement approved operational changes. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities as they relate to receiving medications and pharmaceutical supplies, inventory control, and supply chain. Participates in the orientation and training of new pharmacy staff relative to medication and pharmaceutical supply receiving
