Description
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking a Physical Therapist II to join our team. As the Physical Therapist II, you will be responsible for planning and administering Physical Therapy treatment programs for referred patients to restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body part.
Hours: Monday- Friday 8-4:30PM with Weekends Off
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Performs physical therapy evaluations of patients by testing joint ROM and mobility, skeletal muscle strength, posture and gait, coordination, respiratory status, sensation and sensory perception, reflexes, muscle tone, orthotic/prosthetic fit and function, to formulate a treatment. Patients are adults and geriatric population, referred from all admitting services, Medicine, Medical Affiliating Service, Prison Health, Orthopedics/Surgery, Pulmonary, Geriatrics, Behavioral Health, DMH as well as Ambulatory Care Providers.
- Plan and provide an appropriate patient care program which may include, but is not limited to: Hydrotherapy, superficial heating modalities, ultrasound, cold, electrical stimulation (including transcutaneous nerve stimulation, iontophoresis), cervical and lumbar traction, joint mobilization, therapeutic exercise including biofeedback and training in the use of orthotics and or prosthetics as well as other assistive devices including crutches, canes and wheelchairs to maximize patient’s function.
- Conduct open and closed tracheostomy suctioning as needed during treatment session.
- Confers with medical staff personnel through meetings, conferences, and written reports to integrate Physical Therapy with other medical disciplines.
- Attends individual patient discharge planning meetings, team meetings and performs home visits if necessary to coordinate post-hospital care.
- Maintains daily records of treatment and prepares frequent reports on patient progress which is documented in the medical record to assure quality care.
- Facilitate and delegate Physical Therapy program with Physical Therapist aides and assistants
Required Qualifications:
- Understanding of the theory, principles, terminology, and practices of Physical Therapy.
- Knowledge of Physical Therapy treatment methods (indications and contra-indications).
- Understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and the principles of orthopedics.
- Comprehension of the techniques and methods of fitting and adjusting orthopedic appliances and prosthetic devices.
- Knowledge of Physical Therapy testing methods.
- Supervise students, PT aides, and Physical Therapist Assistants.
- Communicate effectively, written and orally.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and maintain harmonious working relationships.
- instruct others in Physical Therapy in services/procedures.
- Necessary competencies to treat adult and geriatric patients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Operates computer software programs effectively, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to organize schedules.
