About the role

USC Credit Union is seeking for a highly experienced Chief Lending Officer (CLO). The CLO will lead and coordinate our lending operations across a comprehensive portfolio that includes consumer, auto, mortgage, commercial, and collection services. In this pivotal role, the CLO will be responsible for ensuring compliance with established lending and collection policies while implementing robust credit risk management practices. CLO will oversee our loan origination process, ensuring it meets and exceeds our members' needs. The CLO will provide coaching and oversight to their team, measuring departmental progress toward targeted goals through metrics and reporting. The CLO’s approach will be essential in enhancing the member experience and addressing their evolving needs. Additionally, improving employee engagement will be a key focus to elevate the level of service provided to our members.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and executes USCCU’s top level lending strategies.
  • Product manager for all lending products, services and sources of lending related non-interest income.
  • Directs the processing, underwriting, funding, servicing and secondary marketing of all lending products.
  • Directs all collection, collateral liquidation, loan modification and troubled debt restructuring programs, and ancillary loan support functions (DMV, loan document storage and retrieval, workflow optimization, etc.)
  • Directs all lending related credit union service organization (CUSO) operations that provide services to USCCU and its member/owners, to other credit unions and their members, and to other financial institutions.
  • Recruits, develops, coaches and mentors a high-performing team of lending managers and support staff.
  • Works in concert with other Chief Officers to ensure that the lending pipeline remains at capacity, that our lending personnel thoroughly understand their responsibility to their internal customers as well as to USCCU’s member/owners, and that the lending team is efficient, well-trained, well-supported and well-paid in relation to their production and their high-performing asset-size peers.
  • Analyzes and negotiates third party contracts with lending support vendors and secondary marketing entities to ensure that the CU’s lending technology and product delivery solutions meet the needs of the CU and its member/owners.
  • Ensures that the CU’s lending products, pricing structures and balance sheet concentration levels are within USCCU’s interest rate, credit, balance sheet concentration and liquidity risk parameters.
  • Analyzes departmental metrics to provide periodic reports on product performance, service quality, member value and departmental key performance indicators in support of progress toward USCCU strategic and operational goals as needed. Analyzes complex regulatory changes and implements the policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combined experience/education for substitute for minimum education
  • 10 years’ experience minimum
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented and passionate about driving member value.
  • Strong knowledge of finance and accounting, organizational structure dynamics, financial modeling, asset liability management, and quantitative analysis.
  • Hands-on financial leader with great communication, presentation, collaboration, consensus-building and listening skills.
  • Passion and curiosity for innovation and technology.
  • Experience with a broad array of lending technology relevant to enhancing the member experience.

Compensation:

The annual salary range for this position is $210,000 - $260,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
