Job Summary: Teaches group classes on meditation to participants in the Mind Body Research Group studies. This group explores the influence that Mind Body practices have on specific health conditions. Provides patients, through both didactic and experiential practices, with a variety of evidence-based mind body skills they can use to help manage stress, build resilience and decrease medical symptoms.<br><br>

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

Obtains pertinent history to determine patients' needs and reviews physician's referral and/or medical record to assess whether patients are appropriate as potential participants for a group-based program.

Teaches participants meditation and other mind body practices by establishing a supportive and therapeutic environment for group work aimed at reducing stress and improving resiliency in daily life.

Guides participants in practicing and improving stress reduction skills by leading in-class group discussions, assigning out-of-class experiential homework, and providing patient education materials as approved by the Center for Integrative Care medical team.

Engages in active discussion with other health care team members and participates in staff and/or interdisciplinary meetings, task forces, and projects.

Documents pertinent patient information in webOMR (online medical record) in accordance with medical center, department and Center for Integrative Care policies.


Primary Responsibilities:

4. Assesses improvement in patients' health status and well-being through self-administered questionnaires. (essential)
5. Actively participates in center's research initiatives and community outreach efforts on stress reduction and improving resiliency. (essential)
6. Completes all relevant paperwork and submits forms and reports (e.g. Attendance keeping) in a timely manner. (essential)
7. Attends continuing education activities to maintain current knowledge of evidence-based stress reduction techniques and practices. (essential)
8. Provides education/training programs to trainees and other health care providers as needed. (essential)

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required.

1-3 years related work experience required.

Completion of an in-depth rigorous meditation or mindfulness-based teacher training program required. Familiarity through personal participation with the mindfulness-based course curriculum that s/he will teach.

At least 2 years experience teaching meditation, mindfulness, stress reduction techniques, and/or other mind body practices to groups required, preferably in a medical setting.

Training in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction).

Ability to work evenings and/or weekends required.

Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

Counseling or Social Work license.

Professional mental health training that includes the use of evidence-based therapeutic approaches preferred.

Competencies:

Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.

Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.

Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.

Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex
