Senior Associate Director of Pre-Health Advising

Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Associate Director of Pre-Health Advising. The Senior Associate Director of Pre-Health Advising is responsible for advising students and alumni interested in pre-health career paths; developing partnerships that enable students to gain clinical experience; build relationships with medical and allied health career graduate schools; and serves as a key role within the Health Professions Advising Committee, a cohort of faculty who support pre-med students.

Essential Functions

• Primary Pre-health advisor. Advise all medical, dental, PA, PT, nursing and veterinary school applicants (students and alumni).
  Review and provide feedback on application materials (CVs, Statement of Purpose, Personal Statements, Writing Samples, etc).
• Conduct practice graduate/professional school interviews.
• Develop relationships with deans of medical schools throughout the country.
• Direct the Health Professions Advising Committee (HPAC), which is composed of 6-8 faculty members. Coordinate meetings of the HPAC with each other and with students (every semester). Select and train new faculty HPAC members. Assist in writing and maintaining Kenyon’s pre-health web page.
• Respond to prospective students and parents on pre-health questions.
• Develop a Health Coaches program. Work with the nursing director at Knox Community Hospital to develop syllabus and coordinate a credit-bearing course. Facilitate the interview and selection processes of students who take the course. Oversee arrangements for Kenyon students to visit homebound patients for the clinical side of the course. Meet with clinical team/student participants regularly.
• Stay abreast of a wide variety of fields and degrees. Stay informed on all online application services, graduate admissions tests, funding resources, interviewing processes, etc.
• Provide counsel/guidance to students and alumni seeking jobs and internships.
• Speak in academic classes as requested by faculty regarding the graduate school process. Additionally, develop and conduct workshops, some for targeted audiences and some for the entire student body, on topics related to graduate school. (Examples Gaining Clinical Exposure, Health Professions Application Process, Medical School Application Process, etc).
• Host on-campus panels/speakers (alumni and otherwise) on graduate school-related subjects pertinent to our students.
• Collect data on our graduates who pursue pre-health programs. Report data as part of CDO annual report to internal and external constituents.
• Serve as advisor to the student organization KC Meds.

• Potential for supervision of one direct report.

Working Conditions

• Work is generally performed in an office environment.
• Ability to lift boxes or items up to 30 pounds or less is needed.
• Hybrid schedule (remote/in-office) is possible but not guaranteed.
• Limited travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
• 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in career or academic advising.
