Site: The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc.
The Senior Director will report to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Gift Planning and will be a key player in growing the Gift Planning program and serve as the point person to collaborate on the planned giving fundraising efforts for disease areas as assigned by the AVP of Gift Planning.
The Senior Director will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors and meet annual fundraising and performance metrics as established by the department. This is a management position that oversees direct reports and may oversee indirect reports as well.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PORTFOLIO (80%)
• Develop strategies, goals and objectives for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gift planning prospects and donors in collaboration with the major gifts team, your direct reports and other MGB Development colleagues - consistent with moves management principles.
• Manage a portfolio of at least 150 - 200 prospects capable of making deferred and outright gifts. Fundraising and performance metrics are reestablished annually.
o Successfully cultivate, solicit donors, both independently and working with members of the principal and major gifts staff, for deferred and outright gifts.
o Prepare gift proposals in response to donor inquiries and act as a resource for staff questions regarding planned gifts including providing technical financial, estate and tax information.
• Collaborate with Charitable Solutions, Office of General Counsel and outside legal counsel on complex planned gift situations and bequest administration.
• Build and nurture effective, positive working relationships with senior management, physicians, researchers, and volunteer leadership.
• Participate in Major/Principal Gift Meetings as scheduled.
• Serve as Gift Planning liaison at major gift team meetings as needed.
• Provide training and consultation to principal, major gifts and annual giving teams in your assigned fundraising area as needed to respond to gift planning inquiries, donor outreach and strategy development.
• Arrange meetings between donors and prospects with Development leadership, MGB leadership Boards, administrative leaders and medical staff as appropriate.
• Work closely with the prospect research staff to collect relevant information about prospects and donors for your respective fundraising areas.
• Work closely with the donor relations staff to identify and implement appropriate stewardship strategies for your respective areas.
• Work closely with the special events staff to engage donors and prospects as needed. Events may include hospital tours, small dinners and larger dinners or receptions, or larger events as warranted.
• Develop an understanding of the breadth of research, clinical, teaching and community service programs for your respective fundraising areas and departments
MANAGEMENT AND PROGRAM STRATEGY (20%)
• Establishing annual Gift Planning revenue and Gift Planning targets for assigned fundraising areas.
• Work with MGB Development leadership, major colleagues, and prospect research to identify opportunities to identify gift planning leads for your fundraising area.
• Participate with other Gift Planning colleagues in short-term and long-range planning for significant growth of the gift planning program and department.
• Work periodically on special projects in collaboration with AVP of Gift Planning, senior MGB Development office management and /or other MGB Development staff.
• Provide active management, mentorship and leadership to direct reports:
o Work with them to develop appropriate and tailored organizational and individual achievement metrics.
o Regularly review performance to improve individual outcomes as well as personal sense of accomplishment and conduct all appropriate evaluations in a timely manner.
o Maintain up to date job descriptions.
