Clinical Research Coordinator - Center for Behavioral Oncology (Bi-Lingual Spanish)

About the role

The Center for Behavioral Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai seeks to fill one bilingual (English-Spanish) research coordinator position – full time (35 hours/week), traveling between sites in Manhattan such as Mount Sinai Union Square and Mount Sinai main campus). This position requires in-person patient contact.

As a Research Coordinator, you will be an integral member of our research team, and support the conduct of an NIH-funded randomized trial to investigate the effects of an information-sharing intervention on cardiovascular health in women undergoing mammography . You will work closely with the study investigators (including psychologists, breast radiologists, and cardiologists) and other research team members on patient recruitment, data collection, participant tracking, maintaining regulatory documents, and medical chart abstraction. You will be one of the primary patient contacts for the study.

The ideal candidate would be: 1) extremely organized and detail-oriented. The study involves quite a lot of regulatory paperwork, and an eye for detail and skill at keeping track of numerous moving parts is critical; 2) highly motivated and responsible; 3) an effective communicator; 4) warm, kind, friendly, and able to develop rapport with patients and medical staff quickly; 5) someone who combines initiative with responsiveness to supervision; 6) someone comfortable asking questions and eager to learn; 7) flexible and able to shift gears as new tasks present themselves; and, 8) comfortable recruiting in busy medical settings. Opportunities exist for mentorship and professional development for research personnel preparing to apply for graduate school.

  • Recruit women scheduled for mammography to the research study at the time of their appointment in the mammography clinic.
  • Contact study participants to administer surveys and collect relevant data. 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of recruitment efforts and study data.
  • Abstract relevant study data from medical records.
  • Work cooperatively with other clinical and research staff members.
  • Be flexible; schedule may involve some early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours depending on patient availability.
  • Bachelors degree in science or related field preferred or a combination of relevant research experience and education
  • 0-2 years of research/human subjects experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bilingual (Spanish-English); Able to recruit and interact with patients in Spanish.
  • Prior experience recruiting women for research studies.
  • Experience with detail-oriented paperwork
  • Previous experience working on a clinical trial
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel for participant tracking
