Senior Accountant - Technical Accounting

Responsibilities

 

• Perform research and analysis of significant and/or complex accounting transactions, including drafting of accounting position papers that present the Company’s position on how such transactions should be accounted for under the applicable accounting standards
• Monitor, understand and provide interpretation of new and proposed accounting pronouncements to assist key stakeholders in assessing financial, operational and reporting implications
• Assist with the preparation of the annual goodwill and intangible asset impairment analyses, including coordination with third party valuation specialists;
• Assist with the accounting for business combinations, including coordinating with multiple groups within Corporate Accounting;
• Perform quarterly and annual controls, including but not limited to lease, business combination and impairment processes;
• Oversight of the Lease Accountant and ownership of the lease accounting process, including review of lease accounting transactions, monthly general ledger loads and lease inputs within the lease accounting system;
• Assist with the preparation of technical accounting presentation materials for presentation to Corporate Accounting, the CFO, Board of Directors and others as necessary;
• Coordinate with external and internal auditors with regards to review and audit procedures; and
• Assist with and perform tasks as assigned from the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting, with accurate and timely work to support financial needs.

Qualifications

The candidate must be:

• A team-first oriented employee;
• Able to excel in a fast-paced environment, including handling multiple, simultaneous projects;
• Have a firm understanding of accounting principles, specifically lease accounting under ASC 842 and business combinations accounting under ASC 805;
• Able to perform independent research of accounting literature, including utilizing the results of such research to draft technical accounting memos;
• Successfully retained a Bachelor’s degree, with a major in accounting, from a reputable business college;
• CPA license required;
• 3+ years of relevant experience in accounting at a large, multi-location corporation and/or public accounting firm; and
• An effective communicator, including the use of both verbal and written forms of communication.

The ideal candidate should have:

• A working knowledge of ASC 842 lease software is a plus;
• An intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft software products, particularly Excel and Microsoft Word;
• A working knowledge of Hyperion; and
• Experience managing others.
