About the role

Principal Associate, Risk Management

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is seeking a Principal Associate to join Capital One’s Adherence Monitoring Program (AMP) team. This associate will have the opportunity to apply their risk management, quality assurance, and analytical skills to support driving Capital One’s continued stability and success in how we provide oversight and assurance for ERM’s broad risk management environment and programs, as well as helping to ensure our GRC system supports our methodology, and analytical reporting. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated risk professional with excellent analytical, process improvement, and communication skills.  The Principal Associate will have exposure across the first and second lines of defense, and will have the opportunity to engage and partner with risk program, practice, methodology owners, and stakeholders across the enterprise.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Monitor adherence to our risk, control, issue/event, mitigation plan, and risk assessment methodologies; where there are indications of non-adherence, work with the impacted group(s) to develop solutions

  • Leverage monitoring results, along with risk related to data, to identify enhancements, remediation, training and guidance opportunities

  • Support development and delivery of training, guidance, and related services to drive adherence to our risk management methodologies

  • Collaborate effectively with other risk programs and stakeholders (e.g. Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Business Risk Offices) 

  • Partner with other ERM teams and stakeholders to identify analytics, reporting, and process improvement opportunities

  • Special projects and engagements, as needed  

The desired experience and skill set for the ideal candidate will include: 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral

  • Strong problem solving skills and desire to continually expand their risk management knowledge

  • Clear results orientation with focus on achieving both short and long term goals

  • Experience with Google Suite, with willingness to explore and learn new technical skills, such as SQL

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in  Risk Management 

  • At least 2 years of experience with Google Sheets or Tableau

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in process and controls management, process quality, or audit

  • Experience working in the financial services industry

  • Experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance software tools

  • Experience with coding languages such SQL

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Risk Specialist

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
