Community Relations Specialist (XAA103)

About The Position

The Community Relations Specialist is responsible for maintaining and cultivating favorable relationships with municipal and county-level elected officials and staff, peers within the Missouri utility community, and trade associations in support of Ameren’s positions across the Missouri service territory. This position will be responsible for advocating on behalf of Ameren within the community and the community, within Ameren. It is a lobbying role with additional operational, administration, and compliance responsibilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working in close partnership with the Director, Community Relations and Manager, Community Relations to represent Ameren's viewpoint and policy priorities. Support Director and Manager with building relationships across service territory to support economic development, infrastructure, and transmission projects.
  • Maintaining relationships with municipal- and county-level elected officials, their staff, utility peers, and industry professionals. Build trust and working relationships with key internal Ameren stakeholders who must be engaged and leveraged to support and execute external community relations priorities, including Operations Directors, Real Estate, and state and federal legislative teams.
  • Representing Ameren in meetings with government officials and stakeholders.
  • Tracking legislation and hearings, collaborating with company experts to determine the company's position on such matters, and effectively communicating the position to legislators, staff and stakeholders.
  • Supporting operational tasks and storm duty, serving as an on-call point of contact for elected officials during severe weather events.
  • Providing strategic guidance on policy issues, identifying business opportunities and political headwinds, and proactively developing and implementing strategies to influence legislative, regulatory, or policy outcomes.
  • Creating and disseminating lobbying/communication materials.

Community Relations Specialist Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Specialization in political science, public administration, communications, or business administration, preferred. Two or more years of relevant public /government relations, political campaign, government staff, customer communications, or public works / utility customer service operations is required. Five or more years of relevant public/governmental relations, customer communications, or public works/ utility customer service operations is preferred.

Community Relations Executive Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Specialization in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration or related discipline preferred. Five or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in public/governmental relations, public administration, customer communications, legislative affairs or utility customer service operations is requ
