Description
SUMMARY
The Camp SunSparrow Team Leader is responsible for ministering to the spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical needs of campers and volunteers. The Team Leader is responsible for leadership and organization in all Camp SunSparrow functions and activities for the utmost gratification of the campers, parents, staff, and volunteers. Overnight stay in camp lodging is essential for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following; other duties may be assigned:
- Have ability and desire to disciple and supervise Camp SunSparrow volunteers, as well as campers.
- Have ability to creatively schedule, organize, and implement programs, facilities, staff, and volunteers.
- Keep Camp SunSparrow volunteers accountable in performing their ministry via teaching, training, coaching and supporting.
- Maintain healthy staff and volunteer relations through exercising principles of love, forgiveness, reproof, and honest communication.
- Maintain integrity of camp standards and support staff and volunteers in any camper discipline problems.
- Maintain an atmosphere of love, openness, and care among staff, volunteers, and campers.
- Supervise, organize, and implement evening volunteer programming.
- Maintain cleanliness, neatness, and orderliness of camp facility before, during and at the close of camp.
- Oversee program components; communications with Camp SunSparrow nurses, chaplains, Small Group Leaders, special events and guests, campfires and circle-ups, music, chapel, and skits. Oversee all activities, crafts, morning recreation, pool, and mini golf, drive the train for camp rides, provide support to check-in and check-out people, interdepartmental communication with rec staff, food services, and accommodations.
- Work cooperatively with the Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator for the establishment of a friendly, open atmosphere for campers, parents, staff, and volunteers.
- Be willing and able to replace or supplement staff and volunteer team members in an emergency.
- Monitor food service and eating habits, coordinate servers for camp lunchtime.
- Prepare for and participate in staff orientation, meetings, and functions.
- Co-lead staff and volunteer meetings with other Team Leader(s) and Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator.
- Possess ability to communicate with and lead high school, college age and adult staff and volunteers in their various camp activities and responsibilities; provide necessary instruction to the staff, volunteers, and campers.
- Possess ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce applicable safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply effective behavior-management techniques.
- Be a positive role model for the staff, volunteers and campers in his/her spiritual walk, self-respect, love, and consideration of others, enthusiasm, and work ethic.
- Organize, delegate, and be responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of restrooms, dining areas, activity stations, and surrounding areas utilized by Camp SunSparrow campers and volunteers.
- Obey and enforce all camp safety rules and regulations.
- Report information regarding unusual behaviors, rule infractions, medical issues, etc. to the Developmental Disabilities Ministries Coordinator daily (immediately if emergency).

The Camp SunSparrow Team Leader is responsible for supervising volunteer Small Group Leaders and Hospitality Team Members.
