Overview

Position Summary

The State Scholar Coordinator will work with the LifeSet Program and National Scholar Panel to ensure appropriate candidacy for New England Scholars and provide supervision to the educational & vocational specialists across the New England Region. The coordinator will develop an external mentoring program across New England in addition to engaging internal mentor volunteers. The Scholar Coordinator will have effective communication with the Development team in New England as well as our Federal Policy team and local legislators if Scholars are involved in advocacy efforts.  The State Scholar Coordinator will interact routinely with LifeSet supervisors, Regionals, Regional Managers, and Directors to provide updates related to Scholar processes, policies and procedures, educational achievements, movement between LifeSet/Scholars, and outcomes.  The State Scholar Coordinator will track all Scholar and Mentoring activities and be responsive to our funders (reporting expectations). This position will report directly to the State Managers.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

• Supervise Educational Vocational Coordinators across the region to include: individual supervision, leadership field visits, group supervision, consultation, and community outreach.
• Provide quality oversight to the Scholars program by reviewing/developing policies and procedures, documentation, and measuring outcomes.
• Attend all Scholar panel meetings, keep notes and review with any panel members not in attendance.
• Provide education and communication about the Scholar program with all Youth Villages programs and leadership.
• Work collaboratively with the Development department to identify possible funding streams for the scholar program and be responsive to any current funders.
• Work closely with LifeSet Specialists, EVCs and Scholar panel members to ensure timely submission of budgets, community services hours, grades and review scholar compliance with program expectations.
• Collect Monthly budgets and provide monthly stipend list to Finance department
• Review budgets and address any budget/financial concerns with LifeSet Specialists and leadership when necessary
• Provide Q&A about scholar program with new LifeSet specialists and Supervisors.
• Participate in yearly breakout sessions about LifeSet and Scholar Program at Youth Villages Employee Conference as requested.
• Collect outcome data for current and alumni status scholars including conducting follow up surveys at 6/12/18/24 months post graduation.
• Maintain scholar program guidelines and update as needed based on scholar panel feedback.
• Scholar Orientation: Organize and lead new scholar application process for Fall and Spring semesters; Develop ongoing updates to Scholar Orientation curriculum, Work with LifeSet Specialists and EVCs to ensure financial assistance for school is secure before the beginning of initial semester and ongoing; Plan and organize regionalized scholar orientations (plan to attend at least one), Plan and implement travel arrangements for scholars for scholar orientation and other trips.
• Coordinate with mentoring department related to all scholar mentors
• Ensure implementation of local community service projects for scholars by working with local LifeSet staff and EVCs.
• Attend scholar events as needed

• Supervising EVCs in their planning and execution of yearly Job Prep Workshops for each office, and monthly Peer-to-peer workshops for each office

• Complete other tasks as needed upon expansion of the program
• Can work out of any New England office, travel will be required throughout the region.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Master's degree in Social Work, Drug and Alcohol Education or Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Guidance Counseling, Human Services, Marriage and Family Therapy;
• or a Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science that includes 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in human development, human behavior, child development, family intervention technique, diagnostic measures or therapeutic techniques will be considered
• Experience with direct casework preferred

Additional Requirements

Ability and means to drive frequently; provide proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used with minimum coverage limits of 100/300/50 or 100/300/100 in Massachusetts, and possession of a valid driver’s license is required at all times in case of need to provide transportation.
