Salary Range: $5,158 - $12,730/Monthly (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $5,158 - $5,500/Monthly)

 

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; exempt classification.

Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Senior Director, University IT Experience, the incumbent provides technical expertise to the entire university, focusing on the development, revision, publication, and maintenance of accessible web pages and digital content. The role requires the application of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), related disability laws, and California State University (CSU) policies to ensure web and digital content accessibility. The incumbent is fluent in all aspects of accessible web development and the creation and remediation of digital content, including PDF documents, audio, and video. They utilize university-approved tools and processes to monitor and improve accessibility across the university’s web presence and digital content. Additional responsibilities include conducting comprehensive tests to ensure ongoing compliance with WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 standards, manually evaluating webpages and applications for accessibility, and performing regular scans to identify and address inaccessible content. The position also involves detailed remediation of digital documents, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files, to meet the university's high accessibility standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in computer science, business information systems, educational technology, communications, related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Two years of experience in digital web and content accessibility and remediation in a professional setting. Experience with web accessibility tools and functions related to monitoring and reporting accessibility. One year of experience in providing one-to-one and group consultation, training, and presentations on digital accessibility as applied to higher education. Experience using Drupal and other web content management systems. Knowledge of: assistive technologies (JAWS, ZoomText, VoiceOver, etc.) on multiple computing platforms; WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and guidelines; and accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes Demonstrated knowledge of disability law, including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, and 508 or the Rehabilitation Act. Demonstrated knowledge of structured programming techniques and the ability to understand CSS, HTML5, and other web development languages as related to accessibility conformance testing. Working knowledge of PDF remediation and related principles utilizing CommonLook or Adobe Acrobat DC. Competency with Canvas LMS. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications: Department of Homeland Security Trusted Tester 5 Certification (or equivalent training and applied experience). Experience working with students and employees with disabilities in higher education. Embody the following competencies:  favor collaboration and teamwork, meet schedules and timelines, effective communication skills across a variety of venues, and personal effectiveness and credibility as demonstrated by interpersonal and professional confidence.
