Overview

Summary:Transport patients between clinical departments and nursing units. Transport patients needing admission, inter-unit department transfer, or discharge from facility. Provide observation and companionship to appropriate hospitalized patient. Assist and provide basic ADLs as appropriate and directed. Provide general support for the operation of a nursing department including assuring availability of supplies and equipment as pertaining to transport

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:*Maintain established departmental policies and procedures. *Maintains established medical therapies to include, but not limited to, oxygen, IVs, restraints, catheters etc. during transport and notifies nursing staff immediately if medical equipment alarms. *Responsible for effective communication between patients, families, and healthcare team members. *Retrieve, store and transport oxygen cylinders according to hospital policy. *Follows assigned priority as directed for admission, discharge and transfer activity. *Assist with patient transfers from hospital units to other units within the facility. *Utilize automated processes within the Teletracking system to notify the Presbyterian Care Connection of patient activity. *Gather equipment pertinent to transport from within facility to ensure equipment is available when needed. *Deliver malfunctioning equipment to Maintenance for repair. *Provides safety and security monitoring for assigned patients. Alerts nursing staff of changes in patient condition as directed.*Assist with mobility and ambulation as needed for patient transport purposes. *Maintains confidentiality of all healthcare information. *Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology. Transports x-rays and equipment. *Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and copying. *Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings and departmental meetings as required.
