Role Description:

This is an exciting time to join the growing Accounting team at Oak Street Health! This role is a new role available due to Company growth. The Technical Accounting and Reporting team, within Accounting, is responsible for managing and operationalizing Oak Street Health’s internal reporting and technical accounting conclusions. This individual will work directly with the Technical Accounting and Reporting Sr. Manager, as well as cross functionally with health plan finance, legal, FP&A and the corporate accounting team, as well as counterparts at our parent Company. A successful candidate for this role will be strong in technical accounting, financial reporting, and analytical skills. This role provides opportunities to collaborate across departments and utilize new technologies, as we strive to continually enhance and improve processes.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and curious individual that possesses a strong analytical mindset and a deep understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to respond quickly in a changing environment. This role requires strong oral and written communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the desire to innovate and improve. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical accounting research and draft whitepapers for complex and unique transactions including labor capitalization, revenue recognition, stock compensation, impairment analyses and adoption of new accounting standards, among others

  • Develop and maintain company accounting policies to ensure they are in accordance with US GAAP and are consistently followed throughout the organization.

  • Review unique legal contracts to ensure appropriate technical accounting decisions are applied and documented.

  • Support month-end close by preparing necessary journal entries, maintaining supporting documents, and providing internal reporting to management.

  • Prepare high level reconciliations and other analyses to ensure complete and accurate accounting.

  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of reporting to our parent Company and OSH management.

  • Assist in the preparation of high-level reporting on a quarterly basis, such as a statement of cash flows, statement of equity, and analytics. 

  • Identify and deliver internal process improvements to continuously enhance the quality and efficiency of reporting process.

  • Provide necessary support related to on-going audits including communicating with internal and external auditors.

  • Collaborate on special Ad-Hoc projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of technical accounting and ability to research, interpret, and operationalize relevant guidance to facilitate decision making and accurate reporting

  • Excellent analytical, technical, and auditing skills including proficiency in U.S. GAAP rules and SOX 404 best practices

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Time management, ability to multi-task and decisiveness are critical to success

  • Ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with peers, business partners and other members of management

  • Advanced Excel skills preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

  • 1-3 years of experience in Technical Accounting and/or Audit or Accounting Policy

  • Public Accounting (Big 4 or Top 10 CPA firm) or Public company experience preferred

  • CPA strongly preferred
